Meet Blake Abbey-Colborne, a recent graduate of the massage therapy program at Bryan College — in fact, Blake served as his class valedictorian. Always an athlete curious about the human body, going into a career like massage therapy had been in the back of Blake's mind.
It was when an unfortunate incident at his construction job occurred that forced Blake to take a look at what he wanted for his career. He decided he was interested in a career that would be more flexible and social and would allow him to learn more about the things he had an interest and curiosity in.
"I knew I needed to take a risk and try attending school. I called Bryan College and received a warm welcome. I came to campus and was again greeted with warmth; I decided it was time to try something new."
For Blake, that warm social atmosphere only got better. He found that most of the staff and instructors at Bryan have an open-door policy and that everyone is very accessible. "At Bryan College, you're not just a number; you're somebody that instructors have a relationship with."
Blake found the enrollment process seamless and felt he was treated so kindly by everyone he encountered.
When Blake began school, he found the coursework quite demanding but was pleasantly surprised to find that interlaced with the program was a fostering of study habits and the right kind of attitude. He felt that his instructors were very effective at teaching the material. "Because massage therapy is switching gears between theoretical and practical, the instructors made the program as hands-on as possible." He also found his instructors to be very supportive and accommodating.
Not only did Bryan College give Blake a new set of skills and an education, but the program also helped him develop many things as a student. "Bryan College helped me develop a genuine appreciation for my support system, which helped me achieve this goal. And achieving this goal has given me a lot more confidence overall."
Blake is excited about what the future has in store for him; he is awaiting the results of his certification exams and hopes to start working soon after passing. "Attending Bryan College was a lot more than I had anticipated. Bryan's staff and instructors supported me in all the ways that I needed to excel at this program."
