Tom Beslic is a recent graduate of Bryan College’s massage therapy program who has an overall passion for the health and wellness industry.
Tom started working in the industry 14 years ago as a personal trainer. As he gained experience and explored different areas of the field, he discovered he had a love and natural passion for massage. He started to explore massage therapy when he traveled to India and Nepal. "The whole experience there was amazing.”
He felt called to travel and while there, he was able to learn more about the deep-rooted history of massage and the experience gave him a different perspective on healing. He found that massage was the thing that had been missing for him within his work in the industry. "I just have a passion for massage and the science of the body. I love doing therapy work in general.”
After his travels, Tom returned to Canada where he worked for a few years at ski resorts in British Columbia doing spa work. During that time, he learned even more from the RMTs he worked with and, as a lifelong learner, felt a drive to continue his education on massage therapy.
When he was visiting family in Toronto, he decided he was going to pursue a program in the area. He started searching online and talked to a handful of different schools, but he said he found that Bryan College stood out to him the most. "I found it very positive.”
He finished up the work he was doing in British Columbia, then moved and immediately jumped into the program at Bryan College. He said that while the accelerated program is rigorous, it was exactly what he was looking for and perfectly matched his goals. "I'm the type of person that if I'm going to focus on one thing, I'm totally focused on that.”
He enjoyed everything about the program, from the classes to the teachers, but he especially loved the real-world experiences Bryan College offers, like the Student Massage and Spa Therapy Clinic and student outreach events. He loved that they offered hands-on experience in a real-world setting and gave students a chance to problem-solve while still getting input from their instructors. "I would say those were the most valuable. You're actually working with the clients.”
"I can look back at it and say I'm happy I went there. It was a great experience, it was positive. I'm glad I went there as opposed to other schools, it was exactly what I wanted,” he said. "They'll do everything in their power to make sure you do well.”
